The Advertiser (UK) 23 March 2007 - Sharon Benjamin
is one of the hardest working country performers in
Australia. With almost twenty years of experience under
her belt Sharon’s stunning voice and ability to
write meaningful songs has reached far beyond the boundaries
of her native Oz and is now being enjoyed by a world-wide
audience. Her songs are reaching other singers who are
quick to recognise the value of her work. Personally
I cannot get enough of this girl’s voice. She
has a warmth I have only encountered once before, in
the late Karen Carpenter, and a talent for drawing the
listener into her every song. “Perfect Little
World” explores, in thirteen songs, the many emotions
engendered by the heart; refusing the emotion (“Love
Denied”), euphoria (“High As Heaven”),
jealousy (“I Want What She’s Having”)
and final acceptance (the truly beautiful “I Love”).
Also included is the hit single “Jack Of Diamonds”.
No wonder this lady is collecting awards for both voice
and song – and that collection is destined to
grow bigger and bigger. www.sharonbenjamin.com.au
SHARON BENJAMIN PERFECT LITTLE WORLD (Red Bak Records)
This is the 3 rd release from Sharon who along with
husband Mark Hillier (bass guitar) used Red Bak Recording
Studios where Reg Poole recorded his latest CD (which
I reviewed last time) and they co-produced this 13 track
CD.Sharon sings with great clarity, her vocal is always
clean, and warm with a friendly sound sure to please
Djs and listeners alike and sounding at like a young
Anne Murray. The songs are all written by Sharon who
has a great eye for a song line, and has developed her
craft well over the years. Her songs are now being placed
with other artistes across Australia, lovely lyrics
and a great song-writing talent on display. The arrangements
cover more that just country and there's a MOR feel
to some songs aimed at the broader market. The first
single “High as Heaven” is a fast paced
country love song sure to please the dancers too, the
love ballad “Don't” opens with soft dobro
while “I want what she' havin” is a gentle
rocker with great guitar. “Masterpiece”
is a well written ballad of life while “Jack Of
Diamonds” has a great play on words. “Why
he rolls” is a trucker's song with a great story
and up-tempo arrangement. The album closes with “I
Love” a gentle ballad with haunting steel soft
acoustic and a vocal that grabs. There's drums, keyboards,
guitars-electric and acoustic, bass, dobro, mandolin
steel and even harmonica from talented musicians, at
the top of their game too, who play to perfection and
enhance the vocal performance.
This is a sure fire winner for Sharon, www.sharonbenjamin.com

TESTIMONIALS:
Hi Mark & Sharon,
It was great to work with you guys over the last couple
of days. I really enjoyed Sharon's record, I thought
the songs particularly stood out as well written through
the whole album.
Hope we can do more soon!
Cheers,
Martin.

The songs are great, Sharon is a terrific song writer.
What the production does is bring out her voice. A resonance
and quality reminicent of the late great Karen Carpenter.
The first single is a perfect introduction to Sharon’s
new world – a pedal steel driven romp takes this
joyous love song to the top shelf, and is tailor made
for country radio.

SHARON BENJAMIN returns with her much
anticipated new CD Perfect Little World. Sharon sings
with refreshing clarity; her vocal performance always
pure and clean, but also warm and engaging. From the
opening track Love Denied you can only be impressed
with her songwriting skills and the ability to make
music with fun and energy. First single from the album
High As Heaven is full of rollicking sparkle. I Want
What She’s Having and Jack Of Diamonds are equally
stimulating. Sharon has a great way with lyrics; with
colourful phrases such as ‘should have insured
my heart for fire theft and damage’ from No Longer
Broken. I Love is sweet and heartfelt. Why Would You
Wanna is a lovely bluesy swinging number. Why He Rolls
tells of a truck driver and the effect his job has on
his family. This album will create a whole new legion
of fans for this quality performer.

Many thanks for your CD. Once more Sharon
you have excelled
yourself. It is very hard to say which track stands
out. By starting at track
one, one thinks they cannot be any better , but alas
I am wrong. As far as I
am concerned it is a shame that the end of the CD must
come.
Once more many thanks....a real winner.

Some real good tracks on there.
I report my playlists on the Nashville Board as you
know.
I will use your music both on 3RPP here in Melbourne
and on Radio Beverwijk in the Netherlands. Keeping in
mind that in my program is also in the Netherlands,
I look more for a catchy tune than a good story because
of the language difference. But luckily your album provides
both.....
I think it's a real good album, well done!
Thanks again, success!
